Douglas Smith has been providing business and tax advisory services for over forty years. Since 2012 he provided tax consulting services based in Paris, France, for Americans who lived overseas. Prior to that time, he was a managing partner with a mid-size regional CPA firm in North Carolina. He has successfully completed identifying, understanding and managing business and tax issues related to complex transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, financings, recapitalizations, securitizations, reorganizations and bankruptcy: advising boards of directors and working closely with CEOs, CFOs, private equity investors, IRS staff and bankers. He has a broad range of knowledge assisting companies with the negotiation of sales of their businesses and managing tax issues during these and other liquidity events, extensive knowledge in IRS and state tax controversies, as well as state income and franchise tax issues. He started his career with Coopers & Lybrand in Charlotte, North Carolina.
